Balanced!

Dear Coach,

I never played a down of football for you or with you. I have heard some great stories of games played, games coached, and creative coaching that spread around the leagues and nation. You seem to have excelled in all aspects of the game.

You have, though, shown great skill, which I have observed, as a kind and loving husband and father. I do not get to see the day by day of you being a granddad, but all indications are that you are excelling in that relationship also!

You know a bit about horses.
You are knowledgeable about your faith.
You do not meet many strangers.
Your witness is on target.
Relationships are treasured for years.

Though football has been important to you and your family, and involved a lot of your 70 years, it is great that we have experienced so much more of your depth than just the great ballgames. You are a great example of a balanced life!

You saw potential in young players, and in your men and women off the field, in the community and in the church.
You were patient as people took time to catch on in catching a ball or catching on in life.
You were visionary in going up against offenses and defenses. And you have had to go up against some tough odds in life.

You may be in the later part of the third quarter, or even the fourth, but you have won a lot of games by not quitting! Happy birthday and thanks for the life you have shared with us.
